Snap(shot) Judgements are posts that will appear with no real regularity. It’s primarily a way for us to get thoughts and photos up as soon as possible, especially when we have no plan to write a feature-length column on the subject. Here, Gary takes the ferry out to Bainbridge Island while in Seattle and stops in at Blackbird Bakery for a sweet treat.
On my last full day in the Seattle area, I had some time to kill between lunch and dinner later that night so I decided to take the advice of a friend and boarded a ferry to Bainbridge Island. The island’s a 30-minute ferry ride across Puget Sound and if you ever find yourself in Seattle, you really should ride the ferry, if not for the island, than for the views you get of the area. Aside from the views you get while on the boat, once you set foot on the island, you’re just a few minutes walk away from a great little rustic town. Quaint may be the best way to describe it, really. While walking along the main road, I stopped inside Blackbird Bakery with no real idea if it’d be good. The long line and subsequent cupcake I had proved that it was well worth visiting.
