Snap(shot) Judgements are posts that will appear with no real regularity. It’s primarily a way for us to get thoughts and photos up as soon as possible, especially when we have no plan to write a feature-length column on the subject. Here, Gary shares photos from a wonderful afternoon attending the 2010 Vendy Awards on Governors Island.
This past weekend, I had the privilege of covering the 2010 Vendy Awards for Eater – for a complete writeup of the event and the winners, check out my post on their site. But afterwards or even before you click on that link, you should check out this photoset of all the food I managed to eat in the four hours I spent on Governors Island. I made it through all five finalists for the Vendy Cup and all five finalists for best dessert. I missed all the rookie competitors and made it to only one of the three Philadelphia vendors that made the trip up. My favorite plate of food that day came from King of Falafel and Shawarma but I may be biased since they’re from my neck of the woods in Astoria. I also really enjoyed all the ice cream from Big Gay Ice Cream Truck and Guerilla Ice Cream while a slushie from Kelvin Natural Slush Co. truly saved the day on afternoon where the temperature almost reached 90.
Many thanks also to Jennifer Cohan of Savory PR for extending an invitation to attend and for keeping me company on a long, hot day – you rock!
