Shake Shack Custard Conquest – March 2010

Snap(shot) Judgements are posts that will appear with no real regularity. It’s primarily a way for us to get thoughts and photos up as soon as possible, especially when we have no plan to write a feature-length column on the subject. Here, Gary shows off some photos from eating through the March 2010 selection of special flavors of frozen custard at Shake Shack.

So this is my plan – to try every single special flavor of frozen custard each month at Shake Shack. I tried doing this in February but then snowpocalypse happened and that plan went out the window. For March, I did it all in one shot – seven flavors in seven days. I won’t always do it that way but this past week just worked out that way for me. I only wish I had done this earlier in the month so this information would be useful this time around.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel

Chocolate and peanut butter always work well together but the pretzels didn’t improve on it. The pretzel pieces were soft on the outside but had a tough interior, not unlike rice that hasn’t been fully cooked.

Pineapple Nut Brittle

Nice subtle pineapple flavor and the crunchy toppings added a nice textural contrast.

Chocolate Chuckles

Definitely chocolate and I think I detected some peanut in this as well but I ate this while it was pouring all around me so I kinda rushed it so the rain wouldn’t collect in my cup.

Mango Madness

I did not taste any mango in this at all.

Peppermint Patty

The custard didn’t have a strong peppermint flavor but the chocolate mint candy crumbled on top of it certainly did.

Coffee & Donuts

Great coffee flavor with chunks of cake donut – mmmmm.

Lemon Meringue

Great lemon taste.
